GOVERNOR MUTFWANG WELCOMES PDP NATIONAL DELEGATES FOR NORTH CENTRAL ZONAL CONGRESS IN PLATEAU STATE

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Friday hosted delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the North Central zone to a dinner ahead of the party’s zonal congress to elect new officials scheduled for Saturday, 24th May 2025.

Speaking at the dinner held at the Banquet Hall of the New Government House, Rayfield, Governor Mutfwang expressed profound appreciation to the delegates for their resilience, unity, and steadfast loyalty to the party despite numerous challenges. He assured them that the PDP is on the path to becoming stronger, more united, and better positioned for future electoral victories.

Describing the PDP as one of the most structured, people-centered, and ideologically driven political parties Nigeria has witnessed since the Second Republic, the Governor emphasized the need to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

He commended the indomitable spirit of the Plateau people in the face of judicial rulings that unseated National Assembly members and 16 State Assembly lawmakers. Recalling the dedication shown during the 2023 general elections, he noted that the people demonstrated courage and commitment to enthroning purposeful leadership.

“I want to state that since the advent of democracy, perhaps after the Unity Party of Nigeria, the PDP remains the most organized platform in Nigeria’s political history. Yes, we have faced challenges, but our resilience continues to shine through. With a little more commitment and sacrifice, we will overcome these hurdles,” Governor Mutfwang said.

He disclosed that during a recent meeting between sitting and former governors of the PDP, a committee headed by Senator Bukola Saraki, of which he is a member, was constituted to address lingering party issues and pave the way for a peaceful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

“This committee is working diligently to resolve internal concerns, laying the groundwork for a national convention later this year that will reposition the party for success in 2027,” he added.

Governor Mutfwang also paid tribute to the party’s founding fathers for their vision, courage, and sacrifice, noting that their efforts built the solid structures the party stands on today. He reminded the North Central zone of its pivotal role in the growth and sustenance of the PDP.

In his remarks, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, expressed confidence that the party will emerge from its current trials even more formidable. He praised Governor Mutfwang for his integrity and for holding the PDP banner high, describing him as a leader committed to rebranding the party.

Senator Moro described the North Central region as the “binding wire” that holds Nigeria together and expressed hope that the region will overcome its challenges with unity and purpose.

Also speaking, PDP Vice Chairman, North Central Zone, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, recalled the party’s journey from inception and its numerous contributions to national development. He thanked Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering support and described him as “God-sent,” noting that his impactful leadership is visible across Plateau State.

He also expressed gratitude to the people of the North Central zone for their steadfast support, expressing optimism that the PDP will continue to grow in strength and relevance.
