Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Saturday joined the Tarok Nation in celebrating the 2025 Ilum Otarok Annual Cultural Festival, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to unity, peace, and development in Tarok land.
Addressing a vibrant and jubilant crowd at the Langtang North Mini Stadium, the Governor commended the Tarok people for their enduring resilience, unwavering commitment to peace, and remarkable contributions to the socio-political advancement of Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang assured the people that his administration is actively working to resolve lingering traditional leadership issues and would soon install a new Ponzhi Tarok, a unifying leader who will inspire progress and rally the people toward greater development.
He praised the selfless contributions of the Tarok Nation to national growth, describing Tarok land as one of the most peaceful and secure areas in the state.
“This is one of the places in Plateau State where one can sleep with both eyes closed. The peace here must be preserved,” he said.
The Governor further expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support his administration has received from the Tarok people. He announced the award of a N30 billion contract for the construction of a dam in Langtang North to provide potable water for residents, adding that work on the site is expected to commence by the end of the month.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Kumkwam-Gazum road project and other ongoing infrastructure developments in Langtang South.
“When I say I will do a thing, by God’s grace, I will do it,” he emphasized. “Water has already started flowing in parts of Langtang Town. Though the project is not yet fully completed, I assure you that significant improvements will continue.”
Governor Mutfwang also spoke about solar-powered water projects in Gazum and other areas, noting that these interventions will significantly ease the burden of water scarcity.
He addressed the call for support toward the proposed Tarok University, urging individuals and stakeholders to contribute generously toward the vision.
“I commend this noble initiative. However, let me remind us that since 1999, the Tarok Nation has not had adequate representation in the state’s executive leadership. That is why we appointed one of your own as Secretary to the State Government, the engine room of governance.”
He revealed that his administration is already in discussions to establish another tertiary institution in the Southern Zone, possibly sited in Tarok land, to enhance educational opportunities and stimulate economic growth.
On the issue of traditional leadership, the Governor called for unity among the Tarok elites and stakeholders in resolving the Ponzhi Tarok succession.
“The time to have a new Ponzhi Tarok is now. We are in the final stages of consultation and resolution. We have crossed many hurdles and will soon conclude the process. I look forward to returning here to officially install the new Ponzhi Tarok and present him with the staff of office.”
He urged the Tarok Nation to remain united, saying internal unity is the strongest defense against external threats.
“Once you close the door to internal strife, the enemy from outside will find no way in. Let us build an elite consensus and forge ahead as one indivisible Tarok Nation.”
Governor Mutfwang congratulated the organizers of Ilum Otarok and encouraged sons and daughters of Tarok land, both at home and in the diaspora, to remain patriotic and give back to their communities.
“I wish the Tarok Nation continued peace, prosperity, and progress. May God bless every Tarok son and daughter striving in different walks of life. As you succeed, remember to uplift your roots.” he declared.
On ground to receive the Governor was Sen. Napoleon Bali, Arc. Samuel Jatau, Secretary to the Government of the State, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, Executive Chairman Langtang North, Hon. Beni Lar, former member House of Representatives, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma, Commissioner of Works, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, Hon. Commissioner of Information and Communication among numerous others.
