It was a moment of shared commitment to peace, unity, and excellence as the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, hosted the Muslim community in Jos for the Ramadan Iftar at the Banquet Hall, Little Rayfield, Jos.
The historic gathering brought together traditional, religious, and community leaders from all the 17 Local Government Areas, led by the Emir of Wase and Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), His Royal Highness Alh. Sambo Haruna.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community, the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Muazu Muhammadu, commended Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering commitment to peace and development.
He praised the administration’s proactive response to recent security challenges, including the clash in Shendam, and called for sustained efforts to investigate and prosecute those responsible. The Emir assured the governor of the Muslim community’s continued support in fostering peace and progress across the state.
As a testament to interfaith collaboration, Christian and Muslim leaders, including the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter, Very Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, Sheikh Mustapha Gwarando, Chief Preacher of JNI Jos North, and Ardo Mahmud Riyom, emphasized the critical role of religious harmony in driving sustainable development.
Responding, Governor Mutfwang, accompanied by his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, fairness, and justice for all citizens, regardless of religious affiliations. He emphasized that Plateau State must return to its legacy as a home of peace and tourism, where Christians and Muslims coexist in mutual respect and solidarity.
“Our vision is to restore Plateau State as a land of peace and opportunity. We must break down the barriers that divide us and return to the days when Muslims and Christians lived harmoniously. Plateau is a land of blessing, and it is up to us to ensure that this blessing flourishes rather than be taken away,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
The governor also addressed critical development issues, including the persistent water supply challenges in Jos and Bukuru metropolis. He assured the people that his administration has approved significant funding to improve water infrastructure. He further commended security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and urged community leaders to support farmers in reclaiming their lands amid ongoing security concerns.
On economic development, Governor Mutfwang stressed the need to harness Plateau’s vast agricultural potential. He called for the reclamation of abandoned farmlands and encouraged communities to unite against criminal activities that threaten food security and livelihoods.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering peace, security, and economic growth for all citizens.
